'Tamol Pan' is an indispensable part of the Assamese society. It holds an important position in the Assamese culture. 'Tamol Pan' is a combination of two ingredients namely - 'Tamol', which is Areca Nut or Betel Nut and 'Pan' means Betel Leaf. 'Tamol Pan' after meal is a must for every Assamese and it is also served to each and every guest. It is the first thing to be gathered for every socio-cultural and even religious ceremonie. There is no binding on the consumption of 'Tamol Pan'. Men and women of any age can consume it. In every marriage ceremony 'Tamol Pan Bota' (a legged tray of bell metal) is must and so important is their status that, whenever any matrimonial talks are to begin, it is mandatory to offer a 'Bota' full of Tamol Pan. It is held in so high esteem that, for a 'Tamol Pan' even a crime is forgiven in Assamese society. It is also a must in every social gathering.

A Brand New Site on Assam - www.Assams.Info Just Launched!
A new website on Assam has been spotted! It is on Assam and Assam only. Our research shows that it was launched only 4-5 days back. A nice site in appearance, but still going through the construction process.
The www.Assams.Info is requesting people from Assam to send related articles for publishing on this site. That's sounds great. But how many people will write for free? If you are interested, then go and write something on Assam. They are telling that, they will publish your name along with your resource box(if any).
We wish luck to the upcoming writers of Assam!!!

Assam to Produce Electricity from Husk!
Bamboo dust, rice husk and the sun will soon make the bulb glow in Puthimari gaon Panchayat in Assam's Darrang district. The country's first rural electrification programme using solar energy was launched in Puthimari Gaon panchayat recently. The programme is being implemented as part of the Centre's resolve to ensure electrification in all remote villages by 2009.
Assam Government has identified 2,139 villages, which are not accessible from the existing contentional power grid. Of them, 1,084 are located in Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills. The project will use bamboo dust and rice husk as the raw material to generate power. The Nagaon Paper Mill of Hindustan paper Corporation at Jagiroad has been asked to provide bamboo dust, while rice husk is available in abundance in and around the project sites.

The ASTC bus station will also be shifled to the new site, from the heart of the city. Many people hopes that it will solve traffic problems.
Funded by the North eastern Council (NEC), the Rs 11.36 crore three-storey bus terminus will also house a Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL)'s petrol depot. NRL's petrol depots are a big favourite in Assam, because of their World class services.
